This course is directed to the entire Dental Team. It will focus specifically on visible soft tissue abnormalities, including tissue deficiencies. The aim is to enhance clinical skills in recognising and assessing the soft tissues from the lips through to the periodontium and oral and oropharyngeal areas. Commonly seen examples of pathology, tissue deficiencies and age changes of these sites and tissues will be used to demonstrate presentation and assessment and discuss management plans. As many conditions are chronic, there will be coverage of both the immediate as well as the longer term management. The discussion will also focus on the various roles of members of the dental team and how this cooperative approach can enhance treatment outcomes and successful long-term maintenance.
